Current State of the Fishery

We are seeing promising improvements in abundance indicated by higher catch per unit effort (cpue) in most North Island areas.

It is also good to see many more large eels in the catches from waters which were previously heavily fished.

Recruitment as measured annually at a series of hydro electric dams is trending upwards.  2015/16 season was the best recorded. 

Sites include:  Karapiro, Matahina, Waikaremoana and Wairua Falls (Northland)
